The ABC of Blog Carnivals

Blog Carnivals are a great way to get free traffic to your blog. The idea of a Blog Carnival is not that complicated. There are two things you can do on a Blog Carnival – you can participate by submitting your relevant content blog page or you can host a Blog Carnival on your website.

Sounds confusing? OK lets go back a little. The idea was first started by BlogCarnival.com !STOP! dont go there just yet – as it may get confusing if you are new to this idea… keep reading on.

Basically, the originators of this concept wanted to put articles written about the same subject by different bloggers all together in one single blog post online. They wanted to create a “sort of aggregation of different blog articles on a common specific topic“.

Let me try and explain how the process works, with an example topic, lets say – Make Money Online: Blog Carnival #1. Once  the creator of this blog carnival topic, setup this carnival up on the website – they would go out and invite all bloggers who were blogging on this subject, to come submit their blog links to this Blog Carnival submission area. Ofcourse the articles being submitted had to be relevant to this Blog Carnival topic. The Blog Carnival host, would establish a cut-off date, after which they would stop taking article link submissions. (Although, if you missed submitting the first time, you could come back for the second Blog Carnival on the same topic at a later date - which was also mentioned in the submission page).

Once the cut-off deadline date was reached, the BlogCarnival website or people hosting the Carnival page, would stop taking more submissions, and begin editing all the submissions to make sure that all content was relevant. This was essential to weed out all the bad content and spam submissions and to keep the Blog Carnival topic clean, relevant and valuable. They would then finally “host” and “publish” the carnival by publishing a single page with all the submitted links to the respective articles.

So, if you’re still with me – you probably realize that this is a very good way for you to get your blog noticed… simply go out and find the Blog Carnivals that are relevant to articles you have blogged – and submit your blog link to them! It couldnt get easier! These pages, with all these wonderful links to wonderful content, generally become a gathering place for all people with like minded articles come together – and they attract a large audience that is interested in reading more on the particular topic of the Blog Carnival. Submitting your content is one very good way to get traffic from a Blog Carnival.

But, wait! There is one more way…

Blog Carnivals also allow anyone to “Host a Blog Carnival” on their own blog. You need to first sign up with them and provide your Blog Carnival information to them. Information such as name of Carnival, address, logo, deadline etc.

This is a great way to get other bloggers, in your space, to submit their articles to your blog, to be read by your audience. It is a great way to drive more traffic to your site. How? Well, for starters, if your niche blog topic has a large writer community – something almost every subject has – then you will by default get all the free traffic and attention from these bloggers, as they come visit your blog and see your to-be-hosted Blog Carnival and submit their links. So, thats a ton of free traffic!

Also, when your provide good links to good blog articles to your readers – no doubt they will hop on to another site - but they will defintely remember you, if you lead them on to good content - specially if there is a single page blog on your site that is aggregating links to a whole bunch of different valuable articles written by others.

They will remember this hosted Blog Carnival page, bookmark it (socially and locally), probably digg it, and link to it too – and all this will only increase your popularity and ranking with Google and the other engines. If your Blog Carnival goes on to become a success, you can keep hosting and releasing follow up editions, to keep inviting new niche content and traffic and increase popularity. Whats more, they will come back when your next Blog Carnival page is up!

So, you are now ready to get started. First visit the Official Blog Carnival Homepage . Click around and read the stuff. The concept will sink in gradually (if it hasnt already). Read the About pages, browse the FAQs, read about how people contribute to hosted Blog Carnivals and how to be one, or learn how to host a Blog Carnival yourself, and also check out their Directory of all Blog Carnivals . And, before you leave defintely Register yourself with Blog Carnival if you are a blogger!
