The Power Of Getting Others To Sell For You

Selling through your own direct channels may only get you so far. Once your product is ready and the market responds positively, it is almost absolutely essential to start exploring channels whereby you get others to sell your product – that is, Affiliate Marketing or forming Joint Venture Partnerships. Creating an effective online Affiliate Program or Joint Venture Partnership System will basically multiply your product reach and sales channels many times over. Once setup, it will literally be like having your own private sales force doing all the work for you.

However, setting up and marketing an effective Affiliate or JV program is not as easy as it sounds. There is a lot of work to be done and you must follow some basic principals so you avoid any of the pitfalls.

There are many factors that will decide the effectiveness of your Affiliate Program. One must take great care in not making mistakes that could result in Affiliates dropping out or rejecting your Affiliate or Joint Venture offer.

But, before we begin, just a small note on the difference between a Joint Venture and Affiliate Program.

A Joint Venture can basically be thought of as “Super Affiliate” deal, where you work closely with one or more top Affiliate marketers who have access to a large audience through various established channels. One good JV deal (super affiliate deal), could sell more units than what you get from an entire years worth of effort made directly by you – or many Affiliates put together.

It’s absolutely critical that you setup good JV deals with people who have access to large lists or large audience of people, but at the same time you don’t ignore the smaller Affiliates – because, you really never know which Affiliate turns out to be a winner. Although the 80:20 principal will apply here (20% of your Affiliates will get your 80% of sales) – you must focus on signing up as many Affiliates as you can who are in your niche. Later on you can channel your efforts to give more personal attention to the Affiliates who are performing better.

Lets now walk through some critical and important steps and notes you should keep in mind while setting up and marketing your JV / Affiliate Program.

First and foremost, as in all businesses – keep the best interest of your customer (in this case the Affiliate) in mind. Make sure you work towards their best interest, not yours. Craft your offer from an angle that works best for them, then you. Keep the benefit for them in mind and use that as your central focal pitch. Then derive a message around that, that is real and specific – with numbers and facts included if possible.

Remember Always – The person taking all of the risk deserves most of the money. If they are going to be sending out a mailer to their list of 10,000 people or put up banner ads on their blog, they are taking most of the risk here – and you should part with a larger percentage of sales. Try to work in a 60:40 ratio or even as high as 80:20 or 90:10. some people even do 100:0 – giving everything to the affiliate, just to get the customer on-board onto their list – so they can sell other products to them in the future. Some powerful marketers are even known to give 200% commissions to list owners, for the sale. It may sound crazy – but it is happening and these guys know what they are doing as they convert the customer into cash down the road.

Just make sure to keep your JV partners happy by giving them money! The more you give, the more they will come back to work with you.

Like I said before – don’t just focus on the top Affiliate partners. Start by contacting various potential partners in Tier 1, 2, 3. This will give you a wide spread and a better understanding and also let you decide where you should focus down the road (ie. which type of JVs are working best). In the beginning be prepared to search JVs out. But once you get a name, people will come to you!

The easier you make things for them – the more they will like you and promote your offering. If you don’t keep things ready and easy to use – they will most probably move on. Just set a target in your mind to make them large sums of money with the least hassles. You would like the same wouldn’t you if you were in their place?

When you sign up new JV partners, go slow with them in the beginning and drop them if they show any signs of mistrust. Its not worth wasting your time on anyone who shows mistrust. There are plenty of fish in this ocean.

- Contact your affiliates one-on-one

- Respond quickly to questions.

- Offer more training to your affiliates than your competition does. This will increase your affiliates loyalty and activity.

- Give them some new activity at least once a week to do.

- Give your affiliates a check list of things to do. This is very important. You must spell out and guide them on the exact steps to take to get things moving and to get good results. They should not have to figure out the puzzle. You need to give it to them on a platter, if you want them to promote your offering…

1. Give them a Quick-Start Guide – show them easiest ways to get results. Show them what they have to do first. Fire your big weapons early on.

2. Provide a 30 day check list to them – Plan their entire first month of promotion for them. Tell them what to do in day 1, 2, 3 etc. tell them what to do ..including any things like get training from blog on this day etc.

3. Give them a Weekly Plan – After the first month, tell them what they should accomplish week-on-week. Mondays they should buy ads, Tuesday – send a newsletter etc.

- You must tell them specifically what to do. Don’t tell them to choose one promotional email – but tell them exactly which one to use and in which order.

- Host a monthly Webinar for them and for new potential affiliates. For example – tell them .. i will be hosting a Webinar and will show you how to multiply your earnings by two.

- Create a library of marketing material for them and keep adding fresh content to it.

- Create an “inner circle” of core affiliates. Send out a mailer saying you are looking for about 25 highly motivated affiliates. In return they must do x number of sales per month, to stay in or else pay $50 per month to stay in.

One selling the product they are already promoting and the second is about your product. you combine the reports and give it to this affiliate to promote to his list. He can brand it with his affiliate link from the other product as well as the affiliate link of your product.Plug-in Sites - Create a site with several affiliate products listed and create affiliate links to each of them. Then contact affiliate promoting any of these products and tell them they can easily create their own page / plug-in site with their own affiliate links. This way you get promoted too.

Give Master Reprint Rights - Create a small product that is part of your bigger product. Tell anyone who buys it that they can brand it with their own affiliate link and sell it further down to others. The affiliate link is for your main product. This method also allows you to get more affiliates other than sales.

- Give them unannounced bonuses as a surprise… that is not mentioned on the site anywhere.

- Catch a big fish, and send out a letter to others saying this big fish has already agreed to promote you. Spend a lot of effort in making the pitch to the big fish.

- Make a video of you presenting your product and put it on a DVD and send it via postal mail. This will stand out from the crowd.

- Help them find link cloakers that will protect them for competitions prying eyes

- Remove the risk for them for the first promotion. Get them to promote your Free bonus etc. first. Then later on approach them to promote the main product.

- Your Affiliate Center should be your number one priority. Set it up properly and provide all the resources to your affiliates.- For rebrandable downloaded ebooks and reports give them step by step instructions on how they can customize it with their own link. Offer to give them help at the end incase they need it. Also, give them a small email / text matter that is a promotion for the free ebook / report, that they can use.

- Have a strong pre-sell… that is useful but incomplete.

- Do NOT let your Affiliate Center become dormant! Keep adding more and more promotional and other material to it.

- Setup a funnel that tells your affiliates what to do and in what order. They don’t want to figure out what to do… but want to be handed the procedure in a platter.

- Tell affiliates, very early on, to mask or cloak their links with tinyurl and a redirector on their site.

- Encourage the affiliate as he is approaching a sales target… example, only 3 more sales to achieve xyz commission status!

- Send a Super Affiliate $10 in advance by PayPal and then ask him to look at your product and program.

- Create an email that is personalized when you make the first contact. It should have the following well planned.. Start with a personalized remark. Then talk about a connection that you both have. Tell them the reason why you are writing to them. Next, spell out their involvement in the project – it must be hands free mostly, with you doing all the work. Then tell them the commission percentage, profit per sale, conversion rates etc. If you have social proof of some of the big names in the industry being part of your affiliate program, name them. End the email pitch with an open ended question… that asks for a response. This will start a dialogue, and increase the chances of the receiver replying to you.

(actually it was not them – it was one of their customers … an old lady… and she shared her idea with them by simply clicking on a link on a “Talk To Us” / “Suggestions” link on the Amazon site (which should tell you how important it is to have such a link on your site).

This one simple and now obvious suggestion earned Amazon in millions and now billions of dollars in sales. It was a simple idea but has been used by tons of merchants and people selling products online and many businesses are very dependent on their Affiliates making sales for them – while they focus on other aspects of business.

If you are selling anything online, and still do not have an Affiliate Program in place – I hope I have been able to convince you how important it is!

How To Cash In Using ClickBank (or any Affiliate Network)

Most people who sign up as Affiliates to promote other people’s products use the “hit and run” method. This method goes something link this –

(a)  Select a product from Clickbank (or any other affiliate network)
(b)  Send traffic to the product landing page of the merchant
(c)   Make money… That is, profit!

While this system may look very lucrative and some people are making money using it – it is not the best way to cash in and anyone using only this system is leaving a lot of money on the table. Why? I will explain…

By putting up your various marketing channels online for this product and diverting the traffic to the merchant’s landing page for the product – you are essentially letting them go somewhere else without any opportunity to contact them in the future.

Even though, eventually a percentage of the people you send to the merchant’s product page will covert into purchasing customers – you will still not have access to them or any others who do not buy.

By simply channeling traffic to someone else’s site – you are only guaranteed a single sale for your efforts. You lose out on the opportunity to target buyers AND non-buyers in the future!

You are simply profiting from a one-time sale only to the customer that you send to that landing page of the merchant / product seller. You cannot re-sell to them or to the non-buyers.

A good business is built on repeat customers!

Here is a fool proof method of using Clickbank to profit in the long run. This business model may be a bit more complex to execute and setup – but you will be guaranteed revenues that are substantially higher than the above one-off sale system and you can keep selling to the same customer base over and over again!

Note – Clickbank is a great place to find information products to sell and its very simple and free to join for Affiliates.

Here are the steps, I recommend -

(1)  Choose a niche that you like and find a series of product on ClickBank to promote

(2)  Create a small ebook of around 25 to 50 pages that is about your selected niche, and aim to give it away for free

(3)  Create a “squeeze-page” or mini-page whose only job is to give the ebook away for free in exchange for the visitor giving their name and email address

(4)  Send traffic to this squeeze page (paid or free)

(5)  Capture the lead coming to this squeeze page

(6)  Deploy a series of auto-responders with the Clickbank products in the niche you chose

(7)  Watch the steady stream of money rack up in your Clickbank account

The main difference that I have used here is that instead of sending the visitors directly to the page of the merchant to buy what he wants, I first direct him to my page and collect his email and name in exchange for a free report / ebook. I can then sell him the merchants product as well as a whole series of other products in the niche, or life or until he un-subscribes from my list.

The money is in the list!

All the top marketers know this. The real money is not in the single sale. Its in the list which allows you to do the repeat sale over and over again! Ask any restaurant owner about this and they will tell you how important it is J

Its way too much more expensive to get a new customer as it is to sell to a customer who has already transacted with you. Infact, its 7 times more expensive to get a new customer that it is to sell to a current customer who has already bought from you in the past. That is why businesses succeed. They sell over and over again to current customers. Ask McDonalds!

If a customer was to buy only once and go away, never to return to buy again, then you do not really have a good business. The magic is in selling over and over again to your loyal consumer base. Enough said!

So, if you want to really become a power affiliate seller on Clickbank, then you need to stop building other people’s customer base and start to make your own customer base.

Here is the above steps in detail…

Step 1 – Choose your niche and then choose a series of product in the niche

The first step is to identify an niche. This should be something that you have some knowledge of or a passion for. That is essential. If you choose a niche that you don’t know anything about or do not have passion or ability to learn – you may lose interest at a later date.

Clickbank lists thousands of information products that you can promote. They can be arranged by commissions, sales, popularity and some other criteria. It may be advisable that you get a copy of the product before you choose to spend time promoting it. In most cases you can just write to the merchant and ask for a review copy and they will provide it to you – if you tell them you need to evaluate their product to see if you want to spend time and effort in promoting it. Merchants will mostly give it to you. If they don’t, you can still chose the alternate path of purchasing it and opting in for the 60 day money back policy incase you do not like to promote it. All Clickbank products come with this money back policy.

Step 2 – Create the Free Downloadable eBook

The easiest way to get people’s email addresses and names is to offer them something of value for free. In this case it will be your ebook. If you can program, then you can create some free “lite” software that will be of use. You can also create a Screensaver. Basically, anything that won’t take up too much of your time – but is of high quality none-the-less (or you will see people get disappointed and rop out of your list).

You may also contract out the creation of this free info-product to someone on sites like Elance etc. if you do not have the time to do this. If it’s a free eBook it can be from 25 to 50 pages long. It does not have to be very lengthy.

Just make sure it is of very high quality giving a lot of information – but it should be somewhat incomplete. It should satisfy the reader – but make him want the full product or other products that you will sell to them down the line in the near future.

Step 3 – Setup Your Squeeze Page

A squeeze page is basically a single short page whose only function is to do one thing … in this case, collect the visitor’s email address and name in exchange for a free ebook. They come to the page, read the brief on what you have for them.. and that they need to sign up to get the Free copy and “see you on the other side”.  While a normal pages sign up rate may be 5%, Squeeze Page sign ups can be as high as 50% – which is fantastic!

Setting up a Squeeze Page is pretty easy if you know HTML and have some basic some graphic design skills.

If you are using WordPress, then there is an awesome plugin called the SqueezeTheme that you can use to create custom squeeze pages with just a few clicks. The only thing you need to do is choose your theme, add text, photo and video optionally and then insert your Aweber Form code (I will come to this in a while). The SqueezeTheme plugin does the rest for you!

Step 4 – Sending The Vistor Traffic To Your Squeeze Page

There are tons of ways to do this, and I won’t get into detail on this one as volumes of books could be written about this. The traffic could be SEO traffic, Paid traffic, Free Traffic, Contests etc.

Step 5 – Capture The Lead

Capturing the lead is the most important part of this system. You must be able to catch the email and name of the person. Make your offer enticing. Write your sales copy well and sell the benefits and show them the features later. As a backend service, I recommend Aweber system to do the handling of the form code and data storage and email broadcasts etc. Aweber system will do it all for you. It is what is called an auto-responder system. They give you the code to insert into your site and a sign up form appears and then the email and names are stored in their database in something called an Auto-responder system.

Step 6 – Auto-Responder Deployment

All the visitor data you collect on your site goes into the Aweber database. You can then send out a series of email messages separated by a time interval t othis message. This series of messages is called an auto-responder sequence or in marketing terms “the sales funnel”. Once the vistor data is captured, they get sent a series of emails one after another (example with a 7 day gap). These messages are written by you. They go out to the visitor as a sequence of messages. Keep in mind that you need to build a relationship with the subscriber. Do NOT overload him with sales messages. Give him some free stuff that has a lot of value and toss in a sales product in the niche every once in a while. Make sure you do not step out of your chosen niche!

Setting up the auto-responder is not complicated. Just head over to Aweber and sign up today. If you have any questions, just ask me and I will guide you. They have a $1 trial offer for 30 days and you can setup an unlimited number of auto-responders. Any serious marketer needs an auto-responder system nowadays that will handle his list and through which he can create his sales funnel.

The first email, which the free ebook download link, should be set to go out right away as soon as the visitor confirms his subscription. Then you can send him follow up messages every 4 to 7 days. Just make sure to be in touch but do not flood him with messages every day! Keep a couple or few days gap – all depending on the chosen niche.

Step 7 – Sit Back And Count the Money

Once you have the whole system setup and running, you can sit back and watch the moolah flow in. Just keep searching for great content and great products on Clickbank that you can keep adding to your sales funnel – so you keep in touch with your subscriber list and do not lose them along the way.

Finally, do make sure you pick only high value products – or you will lose your trust and credibility!

Article Marketing – 7 Power Tips

Article Marketing is one way to get incoming links / backlinks directly to your site – which can result in higher Page Rank and Google Love for your main site as well as get some direct traffic from readers of the article. Since some of the top article sites are trusted sites, if you can post an article and then do some clever off-page SEO by mass bookmarking your article as well as submitting a few posts to Social Media sites like Squidoo, Webly, Blogspot, WordPress etc. and creating links with desired anchor text backlinking to your article – its quite possible that your Article Site will rise up the ranks of Google quickly for the keyword you target. Ofcourse, the results differ from niche to niche – but you can test it out for some non-competitive keywords. The key startegy would be to check if any of your competition is using this trick and replicate it, if they are with your own articles and content.

Here are a few Power Tips to keep in mind while adding your article to the Article Sites…

Tip 1. Make sure your title is catchy and contains your keyword placed somewhere in the beginning. Thats very good for SEO. If possible, try and repeat the keyword in the headline. Somehow Google likes that. Don’t repeat it more than once and feel free to add another meaningful word in-between so it looks genuine and real. Remember, the title must be catch and must draw the reader into reading the rest of your article.

Tip 2.  While writing the main body of the articl, there is absolutely no need to describe the entire product or service or whatver topic you are discussing. The goal of posting an article on an Article site is to draw the reader into reading the subject and get them interested so they click through to visit your main site. Ofcourse, getting a juicy backlink from good Page Rank sites is also one of the main reasons for Article Marketing. So, don’t pack your article with the complete information. Write a few interesting points keeping your article to within 300 to 500 words only and in the end, have a call to action – some sort of link, that they have to click, in order to keep reading on. You must keep your reader engrossed and get them to click through by giving them some good freebie points and power tips – keeping them interested and wanting to click that link! Also, make sure you break up your article into short parapgraphs and have short sentences that are easy to digest and read quickly.

Tip 3. Make sure your Keyword Density for your target keyword floats around the 1% to 2% mark – and make sure you include yor seed keyword along with instances of branched out long tail keywords that are related to it. So, if you have a 200 word article – you need to have your keyword and its branches appear atleast 2 to 4 times. I would put the main keyword twice (in addition to the headline) and then have branched out keywords the rest of the 2 times.

Tip 4. This may be obvious, but many of us miss this in a hurry. Don’t make any spelling mistakes or grammatical errors. Please proof read your article prior to commiting the sibmission.

Tip 5. The Bio Box (or the Resource Box) – This is where you (the author) have to put in a little bit of information about yourself. I suggest you don’t brag about your features and abilities. This is the space where you want to tell the reader what benefit they will get by coming to your site. Don’t bore the reader with a sales pitch. Give them a concrete benefit and tell them how your product or service will get them to achieve their goals. Keep it catchy and interesting. Make it like a concise advertsiement where you have a few words to catch their attention – without being too “salesy”.

Tip 6. If your intention is to build your name and brand – then use your real name or brand name.

Tip 7. You may submit the same article without changing its content to multiple Article Sites, and not get penalized by Google. If you have only a couple of articles that you are submitting to around top 5 to 10 Article sites, you can do this task manually. If you are going to be doing this regularly and submit a large number of articles to a large number of sites then its best you use some of the automated Article Submission Softwares out there in the market. However, I would still suggest you submit to the top 5 Article Sites manually and do the rest of the submissions with the softwares. I’ll come back another day and post some of these software in the commets to this post.

Getting Backlinks from .EDU Sites for Awesome Google Link Juice

Here’s a quick and powerful tip… Keep in mind that your posts need to be of absolute high quality… or the blog owner will wipe it clean. Also, do not post more than one comment per blog. Getting a backlink from a .EDU site is nothing short of gold for your Page Rank and Google Love. If you do it right, you can get great backlink juice.

Some blog comments are moderated and some are not, and there are different ways to filter these .edu sites which I have listed below. Either way – just make sure the content you post is relevant and of high quality and related to the topic. Don’t go about posting crap, as you will be wasting your time. Don’t worry about the PageRank of the page itself, because that could increase over time.

Do-Follow Tip – You should also be very interested in knowing if the page is a do-follow page, so you don’t waste your time if you aim is to get Google PR love. Get the Firefox Do-Follow plugin to help you with this strategy.

Finally, don’t forget to ping each time your post! Finally, after you make the blog post – you will need to “ping” the post where you left the comment, with any of the pinging websites out there like pingomatic etc,  so that the Googlebot comes to index it.

Search Command #1 … finds .edu blogs having your keywords. Not that powerfull, but a handy search command.

Search Command #2 … finds blogs you can comments on which do not require you to be logged in (that is post as a guest) and/or where the comments are not closed.

specific search…

site:.edu inurl:blog “post comment” -“you must be logged in” -“comments closed” “your keyword”

Search Command #3 … this technique allows you to find .edu blogs where you can create an account profile, and then confirm your account and login to go to the homepage or course page and then add your own link to your profile. Then save the URL where you did this so you can eventually ping that URL, thereby getting a backlink from the .edu site.

Search Command #4 … This command help you find .edu sites which have forums. Simply visit them and check to see if they allow you to add your website URL at the time of registration. If not, skip the .edu forum and move to the next one.

Search Command #5 … this is for fidning discussion boards which allows the visitor to add a reply. Go to the result page and look for the “reply” link, then as always type your informative reply and place your link within the reply.

How To Find Exact Number of Daily Current Searches for Your Keywords on Google

Here’s a quick secret method to finding the exact number of current searches for any term on Google. The common methods that everyone will share with you will help you find only the number of searches for the previous month on Google – or the general bar graph on approximate search popularity of the past. These techniques wont help you in trying to evaluate any daily, live and new search trends.

Below is a secret that not many experts will share with you. I suggest you memorize it or print it out and file it – as you won’t find this little gem anywhere around the net.

Now, here’s the Secret -

1.  List out all the keywords you would like to find the live current search statistics for.

2. Make sure you add [ ] around each of the keyword sets. This is because we only want to find “exact match” search data.

3. Open your Google Adwords Account, and Create a New Campaign and a New Ad group within the Campaign.

4. Add all your Keywords into this Ad Group. Again, make sure you have [ ] around each Keyword / Keyword Phrase.

5. Define and insert a Pay-Per-Click bid for all these keywords that is really really very high… Something like $3 to $5. I will tell you why shortly.

6. Write a totally unrelated Advertisement for these keywords. For example – if you want to find out the search statistics for the Keyword [dog training book] , make an advertisement on the subject – How To Program in C++.

7. Now, Activate Your Campaign! … and wait for 24 hours to get the statistics!

Thats it!

Explanation: By bidding high for the keywords (point 5 above), you are assured that your ad shows up whenever anyone does a search for your keyword. Google uses Quality Score formula to display the Ads (which is a factor of the bid amount, click-through-rate and landing page quality) – and now since you insert a very high CPC, you will be assured that your ad shows up on the first page – even if your CTR is zero. Google likes you a lot because you are willing to pay such a high CPC in the live ad auction Adwords resutls. This way, since your ad is displayed on each search perofrmed for that keyword – you get to know the exact number of searches performed for your keyword. Google displays these numbers in your Ad Campaign pages inside Adwords. Agian – the search number accuracy is maintained since you have bid so high – that you are probably be on top if not within the first 8 ads that show up on the first search result page.

Now, by displaying a totally irrelevant advertisement(point 6 above), you are assured that nobody really clicks on your ad! Since the ad is totally irrelevant and not related to what the searcher is looking for – they just move on and are not interested at all. Thus you don’t pay a single penny!

Note: Some people will argue that this will reduce your Quality Score in the eyes of Google Adwords. My suggestion is that if you create a new separate Campaign you might not get affected much, but if you are still paranoid – just open a fresh Google Adwords account to carry out all your keyword experiments.

Therefore, Average Gross Profit per visitor = $50 x .01 = $0.50
This is my break even CPC. I can bid anything up to this mark and make a profit.

Another way to represent this equation:

Say my Conversion Rate is 1%, which means 1 out of 100 people visiting my site purchase the product.

If my product sells at $100 and costs me $50 to manufacture, it gives me a margin of $50 that I can use to bid and do my PPC campaign.

Therefore, I earn $50 per 100 visitors at a 1% CR (Conversion Rate)
or, 50 cents per visitor… ( $50 / 100 )

So, this means that I can bid up to 50 cents to get each visitor to my site.

=>  Profit Margin X Conversion Rate = Break Even CPC

in this case:  $50 X 1% = 50 cents  (also called value per visitor)
so if my CR doubles to 2%, then => $50 x 2% = $1  (doubling my value per visitor or my max CPC bidding ability)


# Measure Conversion Rates and bid pricing for each Ad Group individually
– do not club them together
– value of each visitor varies per Ad Group => you need to track at the Ad Group level
– This will avoid underbidding on keywords/groups that are converting well and overbidding on keywords/groups that have a lower conversion rate.
– Make separate XLS tracking sheets for each Ad Group and use the Google Tracking that is provided for.

# Important Explanation of above, via an Example:

Lets say we have 2 Ad Groups for the product above selling at $50 margin –
Group A has a conversion rate of 5%
Group B has a conversion rate of 1%

This means that if we by chance club these two Ad Groups together, we will get an average conversion rate of 3%
That means we can bid up to $1.50 for each visitor

Now, if we were to separate out the 2 groups …
Group A at 5% CR => max bid can go up to $2.50 per visitor
and
Group B at 1% CR => max bid can go up to $0.50 per visitor

By, clubbing them together – we are not taking the advantage of the fact that I can spend more for GroupA visitors (more than $1.50 ..up to $2.50), and that I am overbidding for Group B visitors (bidding as high as $1.50 which I should not be crossing $0.50). So, I am effectively underbidding for the better performing GroupA and overbidding for the lower performing GroupB. Simply put – I have more CPC money that I can use for better performing Group A and lesser CPC money that I should be using for lower performing Group B. Both ways, by taking a merged Group – I am reducing the number of visitors to my site in one case – thereby losing sales, and in the other case I am overpaying for visitors to my site – thereby making a loss on each sale.

# Obvious keywords tend to be very competitive
– kinding specific keywords pays of because (a) you get a higher conversion rate due to narrow specificness, and (b) lower bid prices due to lesser competition

# Use Google’s inbuilt tracking feature for each Ad Group
– use Google Analytics for other aspects of tracking (example: lead gen etc)

# The focus should be to get a better CTR and a better optimized Landing Page

What is relevant for Google and its algorithm reflects this, is that it will optimize to better performing ad – that is, the one that earns it more per 100 views. The “Payout per 100 Google Search Result Views” is what is important to them and us. So, in Case 1 – Google earns 50cents every 100 searches and in Case 2 it earns 40cents for every 100 searches. What is my eventual cost to get 100 visitors to my site is not relevant to Google, and in the above example Case 2 is paying $40 to get 100 visitors (having a much lower CTR) and Case 1 is paying only $10 to get 100 visitors (having a much better CTR). But, this is irrelevant to Google although relevant to the advertiser as he uses this to measure his profits. Google, is concerned with the amount it earns per search – not the amount you pay it eventually for each visitor to your site – because your ad CTR could be very low.

So, Case 1 earns more for Google even though the CPCP is much lower -
but because the CTR is much higher, thereby effectively earning more for Google on a per 100 search basis / or on a per search rate basis. Because if this, Google adapted the Quality Score measure which will accordingly push better performing ads higher up in the ad display tower.

This is Google’s Logic - “The better CTR your Ad has, the lower CPC you can bid to go higher as your ad is performing better for Google … thereby earning them more on “Search Views” and therefore they let you pay proportionately less per click for a higher position as your CTR is higher – therefore earning Google more money”.

# The secret is to work your way to the top without paying for it.
– how? … with a better CTR and a better Quality Score (which also includes on-page factors)

# Better CTR Tips …
– Divide keywords into highly targeted groups
– Include keywords in the copy of the Ad (preferably the Title)
– Keep Split Testing your ads for improving your CTR on an ongoing basis

# Advanced PPC Tactic
Since higher positions get 2 to 10 times more traffic (and clicks) and when you are just starting out, your Ad does not have a CTR set by Google, its a good idea to bid higher to get on the top – thereby getting you a good CTR and then you can gradually drop your max CPC. You are getting a better CTR by virtue of your position and max CPC offer … your CPC will auto drop with your high CTR and you can thus effectively position yourself higher up at a lower cost. That is, when newly starting out – bid high, get placed higher giving you a better CTR and thus dropping your max CPC automatically much below your max CPC or high entry bid price.

Step 4 - LANDING PAGES

1. The Headline matches the Ad Copy
2. Focus on one specific action only … that is – “the most wanted response”
3. Have no distracting navigational links
4. Short Copy
5. A Prominent Call To Action … example – a subscription form /or/  a Checkout

- Even just changing the headline to match the ad copy can produce good results. You can have multiple landing pages, each with customized headlines.
– Do not direct users to the homepage
– Users coming in from Ads are very fickle. Speak to them first and directly!
– Keep no distracting links like – Contact Us, FAQs, About Us, etc
– Make a new design template if required

– Identify your Audiences and Segment your Ads
– Group Ads into Ad Groups
– Define your “most wanted response”
– Define your visitors path … and make copy that is based on that
– Define your Message

(2) All critical text and information should be kept ABOVE the fold. You should draw the user into reading below the fold.

Step 5 - ADVANCED TACTICS

# For CTR –
position matters more than the Ad Copy as users are more likely to click on the top ads – independent of the quality of the Ad.

# The Money Loop
When you first start out Google has no history of your CTR or Ad performance, and Google assumes that the CTR of your Ad will be average. This is the key, because … if your Ads are doing well, Google thinks your Ads will continue to do well and therefore they will continue to do well. So the trick is … To temporarily boost your campaign when you are just getting started. Pay a very high CPC when you start out (this is temporary). This will position your Ad high up without Google knowing any historic CTR. So now, because your Ads are higher up, you establish a higher CTR. After doing this for 1 or 2 weeks, you can safely start to lower your CPC (taking advantage of the established higher CTR). So, start out strong when you start a new CPC campaign.

# Use Keyword Rich Domain Names if possible for better CTRs

– targeting languages
– targeting countries (the country specific URL search string end part is, for example:   &gl=us  or  &gl=uk  or  &gl=in
– to find competitors in a foreign market (example Mexico), conduct a search in Google and then add for example &gl=mx (Mexico) to see ads that then come up in the results.

– You can choose sites for your ads instead of Keywords
– This is CPM advertising and not CPC!
– You need to set your Max CPM
– Strategy: Start out by bidding far less and closely monitor your conversion rates to ensure that your campaigns are profitable
